Negotiating with Bunnies
Wild rabbits are notorious for their big appetites and any backyard gardener knows they can devour our plants in a quick minute. While we try to protect our gardens, it's hard not to feel a soft spot for our furry friends. Here's a little poem about striking a balance with our backyard bunnies.
The Bunny Bargain
In my garden, soft and green,
Wild bunnies hop, unseen.
I love their whiskers, soft and sweet,
But not the plants they choose to eat.
Nibbled asters, coneflowers, gone—
Prairie grasses to munch upon.
But leave my hostas, herbs, and blooms,
They're meant to brighten up my rooms.
Dear rabbits, let's negotiate:
The clover's yours—just leave my plate!
I'll share wild violets, goldenrod free,
But spare the plants that are dear to me.
